A career football official, Tony Michalek knows all about maneuvering in pressure situations, both on and off the field. His unique background and love of life provide him with a foundation for his messages of motivation and achievement of excellence.


He is currently an NFL Official, the Director of Officiating for USA Football and IFAF Officiating Chairman. 


Selected by the NFL in 2002 to join the 120 member officiating staff, his playoff assignments include the 2008 Super Bowl between the New York Giants and New England Patriots along with the 2007AFC Championship Game. He officiated in NFL Europe for 4 seasons culminating with the 2003 World Bowl in Scotland.  Prior to the NFL, his experience included 5 seasons with the Big Ten; earning the honor of working the Fiesta, Cotton and Houston Bowls. 


Tony’s “day job” as Director of Officiating for USA Football, keeps him on the conference circuit, key note speaker at numerous events. He has also spoken for corporate groups including, financial and high tech companies, leveraging his 22 years as a floor trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.


As a 28 year member of the Central Officials Association in Chicago, he serves as teacher, coach, mentor and motivator of officials and youth groups, often speaking at schools and to social networking groups. With strong ties to his community and a commitment to giving back, Tony Michalek has been an official, coach and administrator with student athletes in the Chicago area since 1982.


Earning his bachelors degree from Indiana University in 1982, he attended IU on a full football scholarship and played on the 1979 Holiday Bowl Championship team.
